Quilting Progress

  • Jan. 7th, 2009 at 8:02 PM

As part of my desire to get more done in the new year I've decided to spend a portion of each day doing said things.  Monday was card making day.  I made a 'Thank You' card for my sister.  Tuesday was scrapbook page day.  I made a scrapbook page of my other sister.  I decided that I wasn't too thrilled with my efforts so I didn't take any pictures.

Today was work on a quilt day!  I've begun working on a spinning star quilt that I saw in a magazine that someone sent me from my Holiday Wishes Post.  This will only be my 4th quilt, but I have faith that I will muddle through.   I'm used to doing paper pieced quilts so this one is more of a challenge for me.  Also, this one features a ton of curves; getting those pinned correctly is a task that I had not figured before I plunged in.  So below are a few of the pieces that make up the Spinning Stars .  I had to cut out over 200 of these in various colors to make all of the stars.  Once I finished cutting them out I began sewing them together.  For today, quilting wednesday, I only managed to sew three of them.
I will have to sew more than 3 a week if I want to get this quilt done in a timely manner.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Delay

  • Dec. 17th, 2008 at 8:50 PM

Well, I've been very busily making cards left and right.  The other day I went to upload some images from my camera and discovered that the cord is frayed beyond repair!  I'm not sure how that happend, but I have ordered a replacement cord from Ebay.  I was hoping it would have arrived by now, but no show so far.  I had hoped to have a few more up for Paper Craft Thursday @  kellishouse.blogspot.com/2008/12/homemade-christmas-card-paper-crafting.html

Since card making is my newest obsession I have of course been looking at all the doodads and frills that go along with it.  I almost have myself convinced that I need some sort of Cuttlebug, Sizzix, or Cricut.  In fact, I almost went out today and bought one.  I was able to talk myself down from the ledge for now, but I'm not sure for how long...

Today I started my Christmas baking.  I only made 2 rum cakes, 1 Yellow and 1 Chocolate.  They are for my husband to take to his job (the post office).  Every year I used to do quite a bit of baking for them; the past 2 years, not so much.   I decided to do the rum cakes instead of the rum balls, let's hope they are enjoyed as much as the cookies usually are.   I shall also be making some bars and thumbprints, all to be sent in on saturday.

Christmas Cards

  • Dec. 11th, 2008 at 11:18 PM

Well, being laid off from work for the past two weeks has left me with quite a bit of free time. Ideally I should be using this time to really clean and organize the house....yeah...that doesn't seem to be happening. What I have been doing is catching up on TV on DVD from the library and making cards. Usually this time of year I'm all about quilting. I had been working on a Christmas quilt, but have put that aside while I wait and see if I receive any blocks from my wishlist. Every year after Christmas I love to buy the 90% off wrapping paper and cards. Last year I bought some pretty ugly (to me) cards for .39 at CVS. It didn't matter that they were ugly (to me), just that they were Only .39!
So this year I was filling out store bought cards and sending them out as per the normal. Something came over me and set me off on decorating my own cards. The problem with that is then you have to find envelopes to fit them. Then I thought about those ugly (to me) cards and decided to "personalize" them. So that's what I've been doing. You know, I totally can understand now why greeting cards are so costly. I am averaging about 4 cards a day. I can't imagine if I had to try and support myself by making cards for a living. I would have to charge $20.00 per card or something. Would you buy a $20.00 card??? I wouldn't....

The first cards I made can be seen here: photobucket.com/PanchiroCards I'll be adding the others to the album soon.
